PARENT/TEACHER RELATIONSHIP
I believe that a good parent/teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through our monthly calendar, notes, telephone calls, progress reports, report cards and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You can call me at school (245-0289x122) or send a note with your child in their daily folder.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to their success. I cannot emphasize this point enough! Most kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is next to impossible to make up work at home. Please view school as a priority and see to it that your child attends every day except in cases of emergency or illness. School begins at 8:30...don’t be late!
PARENT PARTICIPATION
Throughout the year there will be a variety of special classroom activities and celebrations. I encourage you to attend when possible and support them by sending needed supplies or treats. Your involvement in school activities makes your child feel important and shows them that you value school. On occasion we will have some supplies that are needed for the classroom. I post the items on apples and hang them on our door. Please think to check our apples when you drop by and “pick” one to purchase.
HOMEWORK
Workshop Way is an exciting reading program that allows you to participate along with your child. Your child will have the worksheet that they are on in their homework folder every day. Please complete the current side with your child. Tuesday through Friday your child will go over their homework with me one on one. Each child will set their own pace. The important thing to remember is that they are gaining both skills and confidence as we progress.
Also, a few times during the year we will be sending home “Family Art Projects” to be completed at home as a family.
CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION
If for any reason the way your child goes home must change, you MUST send a written note or call the office prior to 2:45. Do not rely on your child to relay the message to me because children often become confused and relay messages incorrectly. If no note is received or no phone message is given to me, your child will be sent home by their usual method of transportation.
OUTDOOR RECESS
Morning recess begins at 8:05. It is important for your child to understand that everyone in the school goes outside in the morning. We want to set the pattern that they will follow the rest of their time here at Anderson. If your child does not want to go out you can either set an example by going outside with them or wait to bring them until the start of school at 8:30 a.m.
All children will be going out for recess every day unless it is raining or extremely cold. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothing for the day. Flip flops and backless shoes are not allowed to be worn by students at school. . During the winter months we will be going outside as long as both the temperature and wind chill are 36 degrees. Our philosophy is if they are well enough to be at school, they are well enough to go outside.
CAFETERIA
You are always welcome to come have lunch with your child. Our lunch time is from 10:50 to 11:10 a.m. The adult price for lunch is $2.75.
MONEY
On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always take time to send money in a sealed envelope or ziploc bag with their name, my name and the purpose (lunch, book order…). Then place money in the pencil pouch that is attached in their folder.
ICE CREAM
Ms. Patsy sells ice cream in the cafeteria after their normal lunch time, Monday through Thursday. The cost is 25¢ each. If you would like for your child to participate you may send a quarter every day or a dollar at the beginning of the week. I do not keep up with ice cream money for the students. They can keep extra quarters either in their backpacks or in their crayon box.
BOOK ORDERS
Your child will be bringing home a form to order books and/or software once a month. These orders are provided as a convenient way for you to buy quality books for your children at a low price. As an added bonus, for every dollar that is spent, our class earns bonus points that are used to purchase books for our classroom library. Of course, you are never under any obligation to order. I order the first Friday of every month.
There are two options for placing an order.
1. Simply fill out the form and send a check made payable to: Scholastic Book Clubs.
2. Order your books online and pay with your debit/credit card. You will be asked to enter our class code.
Class code: GPX2H
In closing, I am looking forward to a great year working with you and your child and helping them achieve their full potential. Our days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow. I am so excited and looking forward to an amazing year with you and your child!
Smiles,
Mrs. Meadows
